Congresswoman Hahn Releases Statement on CHP Investigation and Possible Charges Facing Officer Involved in Beating

Aug 21, 2014

SAN PEDRO, CA- Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) issued the following statement in response to a report released today on the CHP investigation of the officer responsible for the beating of Marlene Pinnock.  CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow also announced that the officer will be stripped of his duties and that he will be forwarding the report to the City and District Attorneys.

“I applaud Commissioner Farrow’s actions in carrying out a swift and thorough investigation of the officer involved in last month’s disturbing beating. His decision to strip the officer of his duties and forward the findings of the investigation to CIty Attorney Mike Feuer and District Attorney Jackie Lacey demonstrates that no one is above the law.

“People across our community and the country were shocked by the disturbing footage of the abusive beating on a subdued woman at the hands of someone sworn to protect her. The people of our community deserve law enforcement that they can rely on and trust. Incidents of excessive force are becoming all too common and undermine the goal we all share: to keep our neighborhoods safe. The release of the full investigation report is a start toward rebuilding the trust that has been lost.

“Today’s announcement by Commissioner Farrow is a strong step toward justice. I will continue to advocate for the safety of the constituents in my community as well as all my fellow citizens while I watch this case as it moves forward. I hope to see positive change effected in our communities by the actions that City Attorney Mike Feur and District Attorney Jackie Lacey decide to take next."
